End of Buddhist Lent & Naga Fireball Festival, Nong Khai

Every year in Nong Khai province, on the full moon of the 11th lunar month (usually in October), locals and visitors gather along the Mekong River to celebrate the End of Buddhist Lent (Ok Phansa) and witness the mysterious Naga Fireballs.

Highlights :

🕯️ Ok Phansa Ceremony – Monks and locals mark the end of the three-month Buddhist Lent with candlelight processions, temple rituals, and merit-making.

🔥 Naga Fireballs (บั้งไฟพญานาค) – Glowing red fire orbs mysteriously rise from the Mekong River, believed by locals to be created by the mythical Naga serpent living beneath the river.

🎶 Festivities – Traditional dances, boat races, food fairs, and cultural performances add to the lively atmosphere.
